Boss pleased with chances created and coversion rate of late

Crewe Alexandra’s recent record of scoring in our last five games has pleased manager Steve Davis. The Alex last failed to score in a game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day and that is a vast important from the first half of the season when the Alex failed to score in 11 matches.

The Railwaymen have certainly improved in the final third of the pitch with the influential Chuks Aneke recapturing his form to lead the scoring charts with eight goals. The club have also welcomed back Mathias Pogba from injury and have recently signed Uche Ikpeazu on loan from Watford after missing on re-signing Tom Hitchock.

Fellow striker AJ Leitch-Smith also scored his first goal since September in the 2-0 win over the MK Dons on Tuesday night.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We have scored in the last five games now and look more threatening when that wasn’t the case during some periods in the first half of the season. We are creating more opportunities and taking them on a more regular basis.

I have always put the emphasis on keeping as many clean-sheets as we can. We haven’t done that enough this season, but we managed one on Tuesday night against a good side so that will only give us more confidence.” He added: “That has been a pleasing aspect of our play and if we can become even tighter at the back then we have got a great chance.
