Uche: "A Crazy Debut"

10 February 2014

The on-loan Ikpeazu talks to player about his mad debut

Uche Ikpeazu will certainly remember his professional debut after scoring two goals in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Bradford. The on-loan Watford teenager had fired Crewe into a two-goal advantage at the Coral Stadium ten minutes into the second period, but in a topsy-turvy affair, Bradford City hit back to level before Mathias Pogba made it 3-2 with just under ten minutes left.

Bradford’s inspirational captain Gary Jones hit a spectacular equaliser to register his second goal of the game and salvage a point for the Bantams. In truth, Neither side deserved to lose.

Ikpeazu had left the field before then, having been substituted for Byron Moore just after the hour mark. Understandably, he was disappointed to leave the game with a chance of a hat-trick but the Watford youngster understood the decision made by boss Steve Davis.

Uche told Crewe Alex Player: “It was a great game and I was happy to score two goals on my professional debut but we were a bit disappointed not to have won the game after leading twice.

“It was a crazy game for my first game and I thought to myself what is going on, but it was a great learning curve as I am still only 18. Hopefully, I can kick on and take that confidence and form into the next games.

“I was a little bit nervous as a young player because it was my first start but you have to believe in your ability and I knew that with the players we have here, we would do well.

“I was a bit disappointed to come off because I had the chance to score a hat-trick on my full debut and I was confident but the manager made the decision for the team and I have nothing but respect for the manager. He has given me my chance.”
