Steve says his players want to give away fans something to shout about

Steve Davis says that his Crewe Alexandra team will be going all out for victory in tomorrow’s local derby for the club’s supporters. Crewe have slipped back into the bottom four in mid-week following Sheffield United’s 1-0 win at Gillingham but the Alex boss says that our destiny remains very much in our own hands.

Ahead of the derby encounter at Vale Park, the boss told crewealex.net: “There is always that extra spice to a derby match because we all know how important it is to the supporters.

“It is always the game we look forward to and usually the first the players and fans look for first when the fixtures come out. We need the points. They are important as they will be when we play Stevenage, Swindon and Peterborough.

“It is only three points up for grabs but this one though is for the fans. We want to win for them.

“We will take it one game at a time and we need to control things by keeping in touch with the teams that our above us. We want to drag others into it but getting positive results. We want to be in control of our own destiny.

He added: “I think the safety mark may be lower this season because everyone is beating everyone. We are focussed on getting the points we need to be safe as soon as possible. I have said for a while that it looks like going to the wire and my mind hasn’t changed on that.”
