Steve: "We Missed Uche"

Alex boss admits Ikpeazu absence was a blow

Steve Davis admitted that his side missed Uche Ikpeazu in their defeat to Brentford on Saturday. The on-loan Watford forward, who bagged a brace in the 3-3 draw at Bradford in the previous weekend, was ruled out of the meeting with the Bees with an ankle injury and Davis says that was a big blow to the Railwaymen.

Davis admitted that he changed his tactics after learning Ikpeazu wasn’t going to make the Alex squad for the game and says he would have lined up differently had the forward made the game.

Now Davis will hope that Ikpeazu can overcome the injury ahead of the derby trip to Vale Park next weekend.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We missed Uche in the Brentford game without a doubt. A lot of the changes that we made for the game were because we were without him.

“I don’t think I would have picked that team had he been available for the game and we would have looked for another way to play against Brentford’s extra man in midfield.

“But hopefully he will be back for the game next weekend which will help us because we have got to be more of a threat going forward.”
