Steve: "Deserved Something"

25 February 2014

Alex boss Steve Davis on a defeat to Stevenage.

After watching his side suffer a 1-0 defeat at Stevenage boss Steve Davis was left stunned that his side left the Lamex Stadium empty handed. An early strike from Francois Zoko was enough to give Boro the win on a disappointing night for the Alex.

The Railwaymen created a number of half chances during the game and despite a lot of second half pressure weren't able to find a leveller as they looked to build on an impressive derby win at Port Vale on Saturday.

Speaking to crewealex.net after the game, Steve said: "I am amazed we didn't get something from the game.  We had the chances in the game and were camped in and around their box during the second half but we didn't take the chances when they came.

"We slept a little bit for their goal  early on but other than that I thought we were fine. But we lacked the real quality to get a goal and I just felt that. The performance was pleasing but it all comes down to putting the chances away.

"It is  frustrating because of the good result that we had at the weekend so I am really disappointed that we couldn't build on that win because I've always said that back-to-back wins is what is going to get us up the league.

"We had a few missing in the side tonight. I think we had eight players who weren't available for the game and hopefully we will be able to get a few of them back for Saturday and that will give us a few more options in the side.

"That would have helped us tonight because of the tough game we had on Saturday but I am not going to make excuses. I thought we played well tonight but we just didn't take the chances when they came."
