Boss hails afternoon to remember after deby win
After a derby win at Vale Park, Steve Davis hailed the afternoon as fantastic. Goals from Mathias Pogba, Chuks Aneke and Brad Inman sealed an excellent win for the Alex on an afternoon to remember in Burslem.
Davis was delighted to see his attacking game plan work and felt that his team were thoroughly deserved winners.
Speaking after the game, Steve told crewealex.net: "It is a fantastic day for us. I am delighted for the players and the fans. We wanted to play attacking football and the attitude of the players was superb. We
stuck to the game plan and were brave. We played in the right areas and then stood up to the long balls in to the box when they came at the end of the game.
"We didn't punish them enough in the first-half and should have been further ahead but we got a goal at the start of the second-half which was really important for us. Then we kept playing and countered and got the third.
"Obviously they came at us again and got a header from a corner but other than that I can't really complain at all today. I just felt that we had too much for them today with our pace and power.
"We were well up for the game and performed really well. I know that the players can perform at this level every week and they have shown they can do it today. If we can keep creating the chances that we have created today we will be fine.
"It is always a good feeling to win a derby game and hopefully that will give everybody a lift. I am delighted with everything in the game today and I can't say anymore than that really. "
