Steve Davis On Brentford

13 February 2014

Boss says his side will have to play to potential if we are to get a result against the Bees

Steve Davis believes Mark Warburton’s Brentford side are the best side in Skybet League One and will go on to lift the League One title this season. The Bees have been suffering no ill effects of missing out on automatic promotion and then the play-offs last season or when they lost their manager Uwe Rosler to Wigan Athletic in January.

Warburton, who previously coached at Watford under Brendan Rodgers, has made the transition into management appear fairly straight forward and he remains unbeaten in is opening ten matches.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash at Gresty Road, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We've had some humiliating defeats to Brentford. In my opinion they are the best team in the league - and we have played them all now.

“I felt they were the best team last season and they should have gone up - and they are stronger this season than last. It is a massive game against the top side but if you stick to game plan, make it hard for them, defend well and take your chances when they come along you can win those games.

“We are playing much better than when we met earlier in the season when they beat us 5-0 and this is a game we can put ourselves against the best players in the league and see if we can turn out a result.

“We will have a plan. They all know their jobs and if the keep their discipline within that we can beat anybody.

He added: “Brentford have some fantastic players, an excellent team good enough to go into the Championship. Their new manager has come in and kept them moving, they are very energetic and powerful, quick and skilful, a great blend. We have to meet them head on, and fight toe-to-toe, if you don’t you get turned over.”
