Steve: "Better Side Won"

15 February 2014

Steve Davis gives us his reaction from Gresty Road after league leaders win 3-1.

Steve Davis admitted the better side won after Crewe Alexandra suffered a 3-1 at the hands of league leaders Brentford at Gresty Road. Two stunning strikes from Blackburn Rovers loanee Alan Judge, coupled with an equally spectacular goal from Adam Forshaw put Brentford 3-0 ahead and while Chuks Aneke gave the Alex hope with a penalty, the game ended 3-1.

He added: “They are a very good size and deservedly beaten us today. But they didn’t open us up and have scored three great goals from distance. We thought we might be able to contain them but unfortunately we couldn’t stop the long-range goals.“

“As an attacking threat we couldn’t get the ball forward enough and struggled to create chances but I thought we played better in the second half and were just starting to get in to the game when they have scored another goal from distance. I thought maybe Ben could have done a little bit better with it but it is another great strike. The third goal is another one right in top corner.

“But we have got done in the first-half by a wonder-strike. Maybe we could have closed down the ball a little bit better but it is gone right in the top corner. I thought we were deservedly behind at the break.

Davis told crewealex.net: “We knew what Brentford would be like and we knew we would be up against the best team in the league this afternoon. So we knew it would be a difficult game but I thought we managed to stifle them in the first-half without creating any chances.

Speaking after the game, Davis told crewealex.net that he was disappointed with the way Crewe attacked during the first-half but was more encouraged by the second-half display.
