Jon Guthrie comes out of the cold to help us to clean-sheet
Jon Guthrie made only his 8th appearance of the season and his first since our FA Cup exit to Wycombe in the club’s 3-0 win over fellow strugglers Sheffield United at the weekend. The 21-year-old was recalled to the team ahead of Kelvin Mellor to play at left-back and thus allowing Matt Tootle to shift over to his more familiar right hand side.
Despite his recent spell back on the side-lines, Guthrie, 21, produced an assured performance to contain the Blades and help record a second successive home clean-sheet.
After the 3-0 defeat of the Blades, Steve told club’s web-site: “I thought Jon was good and was steady throughout. His passing was good and he kept the ball for us.
“He got forward when he could and he put in a great cross for Pogba at the far post. We want him to do more of that. He still has a bit to do. He knows there are things he can improve upon.
“He has been out in a cold for a while but he came in and did well. It was a game with a lot of pressure on it and he dealt with it very well.”
