Remaining Cautious With Pogba

Steve glad his returning striker got minutes under his belt in Blades win

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has revealed that the club will remain cautious with the fit-again Mathias Pogba after he virtually completed his first 90 minutes of the season against Sheffield United at the weekend.

Pogba completed 87 minutes of the club’s comfortable 3-0 over the Blades and it was a real positive to see the powerful Guinean make that first start since April 1st last season.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We have missed Pogs but we have got to remember that he has been out for a long time, especially if you include the end of last season. That is a lot of football to miss and we have to remain cautious with him.

“He nearly completed his first 90 minutes on Saturday and we left him on for as long as we could to give him those minutes. He was probably fatiguing before we took him off but we wanted to push him as far as we could.

“We have then been easy with him and will build him up again. He has had such a long lay-off that we don’t want him to suffer a set-back by doing too much too soon.

He added: “We will monitor him and push him on when we need to. He has tremendous power and I’m sure the Sheffield United defender he came up against on Saturday knew he had been in game that’s for sure!”
