Defender targets first team place after signing until the summer of 2016
George Ray was delighted to sign a new two-and-a-half year deal with the club to take him through to the summer of 2016. The centre-half is also closing in on a return to training after suffering an untimely ankle injury. He is expected to resume training next week.
On signing his new deal yesterday afternoon, Ray exclusively told Crewe Alex Player: “I have signed a two-and-a-half year deal and I’m delighted. It gives me more security and now I want to get fit and get back into the team.
“I’ve had a taste of first-team football this season and then got injured, so I want to get back in and hopefully play a few more games this season. It is reassuring that Steve (Davis) and Bakes (Neil Baker) have faith in me and want me to do well. They believe in me and I want to improve and keep my place.
“I probably haven’t done as well as I would have wanted this season and then I was injured, so I am looking to play a few games this season and then start next season really well.”
