Players Playing For Future

5 February 2014

Boss says performances will decide some futures heading into crucial months of the season

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has challenged his soon-to-be out of contract players to earn themselves a new deal by helping the club remain in League One. With just three months of the season remaining a huge number of professional footballers will be considering their futures come the summer and Steve says it is no different at Crewe with players performing for their futures.

Steve says it is totally up to the individual to play well and remain in his plans going forward. Others will be moved on and others may attract interest from other clubs on merit.

The Alex boss told the club’s official web-site: “All footballers play for their futures. It is the same for all of them and much depends on the individual.

“Some of them who are out of contract will think they will get another club anyway while others will want to get into the Crewe team and try and stay here. Helping the club remain in the league could see them earn another contract.

“The players know that they will only stay in the team if they play well. Your performances dictate your future.

The boss added: “You have to do well at Crewe and, if you do, the rest will come naturally. It will attract clubs or earn you another contract, either way you can't lose.”
