Jon Guthrie wants to hold onto his place and help Crewe move up the League One table
he recently recalled Jon Guthrie is hopeful that what he describes ‘as his best performance of his Crewe career' against Sheffield Unite will see him retain his place away at Bradford City this weekend.T
Guthrie got the nod ahead of Kelvin Mellor for the visit of the Blades, with captain Matt Tootle moving to his more familiar right-back spot. Guthrie slotted in with ease and helped the club to a clean-sheet in a relatively comfortable 3-0 win at Gresty Road.
Guthrie is now hoping that his form can see him enjoy a run in the team: “All you can do is put in the work in training then try to prove you are ready when you get the chance.
“It was a big day for me (against Sheffield United) and probably my best performance for the first team and it was a great feeling to come off the pitch with a win and a clean sheet.
“It was a good team performance and the manager wants more of the same, we have to build on the performance and hopefully we can at Bradford. Confidence is coming back and we need a little run now. We'll go there believing we can get the three points.
Jon added: “The league is so tight and anyone could get dragged into trouble. It's always nice to play in front of a big crowd and we’re looking forward to it.”
