Recalled defender aiming to earn himself a new contract offer

Crewe Alexandra defender Jon Guthrie says he cannot allow his future position to affect his performances. Guthrie reclaimed his place for the first time since November for the visit of Sheffield United at the weekend and now the former Pewsey Vale youngster is hopeful that he can retain his starting role for the run-in and win himself a new contract this summer.

Jon, who is out of contract this summer, is hoping he can do enough to convince the management that he is worth a new deal.

Following his return to the Crewe Alexandra starting line-up, Jon said: “My contract is up in the summer so I have to prove to Steve and Bakes that I deserve a new one.

“Obviously it is on your mind, you worry about whether you'll get a new deal or not, but you can't let that affect you. You have to go out there and do what you do. I want to be at Crewe, it is a great club so hopefully I can sort something out.”
