Boss Praise For Pogba

3 February 2014

Mathias Pogba started his first game since April 1st to help Crewe to 3-0 win over Sheffield United

Steve Davis says it was difficult to select a man-of-the-match from his side’s deserved 3-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend, but he did praise the individual contribution of the returning Mathias Pogba.

The club’s Guinean International started his first game since early April after initially pulling his thigh against Preston North End and then suffering a serious knee injury against Manchester United in pre-season.

Steve Davis was surprised how long the powerful forward lasted in what proved a very good weekend for the Alex: “Great credit to Pogs, he kept himself going and he played longer than I thought he would.

“We were worried because it was his first real blast of a game since his injury and we were always going to bring him off when he tired, but he lasted the pace well. He kept the ball, showed great strength and got in at the far post to pull down a cross from Jon Guthrie and that is what we are looking for.

“We will be careful with him because he will be important for us.”
