Striker aiming to help his local club move clear of the danger zone

The hard working AJ Leitch-Smith may not have found the target himself against Sheffield United last weekend but his clever movement, tireless runs in behind and ability to drag defenders into unwanted territory certainly played a major role in allowing Chuks Aneke to do his damage.

Aneke helped himself to a brace in a vital 3-0 win, but the hard work of his strike partner Leitch-Smith certainly didn’t go unnoticed by the manager, his team-mates or the fans. The local lad received a standing ovation for his efforts as he was replaced by the scorer of the third goal Byron Moore.

Leitch-Smith has proved to be the ultimate team player in recent weeks and although the goals haven’t flowed as much as he would have liked, he has chipped in with some valuable assists along the way as well.

AJ told the club’s official web-site: “It was a big win for us at the weekend, especially after we lost to Tranmere the previous week. It was a great win against a team who is also down there and our aim is to push us further away from the bottom four as soon as we can.

“No team wants to be scrapping down there at the bottom of the league and we know that it we keep on playing well then we will get the points we need and will in turn drag other clubs into it.

“There is a lot of hard work to do but we feel we have been playing well over a lot of weeks now and perhaps haven’t got the points’ tally we have deserved. We have been unlucky in quite a few games.

“We know that we have a great chance to move up the table a bit more at the weekend, so we will be doing our best to get another good result.”
