Davis says record against clubs in the lower half of the table has to improve
Steve Davis says that Saturday’s trip to Glanford Park will be the perfect time for Crewe Alexandra to improve their record against sides in the bottom half of the table. The Alex have previously lost to the likes of Leyton Orient, Gillingham, Colchester United this season, but we did pick up a useful point away at Yeovil back in September thanks to a 1-1 draw.
A victory for Crewe at Scunthorpe would see us go level on 19 points but our inferior goal difference would still mean the Iron would remain above us.
The Alex boss is conscious of the fact that he doesn’t want to lose too much ground on those currently above us in the League One table.
Steve told crewealex.net: “It doesn’t matter who you play at this level, they are all tough games and Saturday will be the same.
“We didn’t have a game last weekend because of the FA Cup, so we are looking forward to it. Scunthorpe are one of those clubs who are in and around us and it is an important game for both clubs.
“It is too far too early to talk about six pointers but we will be looking to keep them as close as we can to them. If one team can win the game then it would be a great advantage going into the Christmas fixtures.
The boss added: “Draws are okay but we need to start picking up some wins because three points can make a massive difference at this time of this year. We will be looking to get a result there and hopefully go on to enjoy a little run over Christmas and into the New Year to give ourselves a real chance.”
