We Can Rise To The Occasion

Steve Davis says Bristol City challenge can see the best of his players

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he believes his Crewe Alexandra side can upset the odds and get a result against the current leaders of League One. Steve Cotterill brings his table topping Bristol City side to the Alexandra Stadium this weekend, but Crewe will be looking to take the points for themselves as they battle against relegation.

The Alex boss is hoping that his players can rise to the occasion again and pick up some very valuable points as we head into the festive period. Crewe took four points from Bristol City last season and a repeat of that type of form would be most welcome, although the Robins are now a totally different proposition under Cotterill.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash at Gresty Road, Steve told crewealex.net: “We have done well against bigger clubs in the past, why that is I'm not sure. Maybe it is mental, because we know the challenge will be greater and performances are lifted.

“Steve has brought I players who can get them out of this league and they have been very successful so far. The investment they have put in is paying off.

“They are favourites to go up and it'll be a tough game, but we are relishing the opportunity to face them.

“Without a doubt we are capable of beating them, we are at home the fans will be behind us and we are in decent form even though results haven't gone for us.

The boss added: “The lads are looking forward to the three challenges we have got coming up.”
