Davis says players will learn from harsh lesson dished out at Scunthorpe

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that his Crewe Alexandra team have the capacity to bounce back from Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Scunthorpe. The performance from the Railwaymen certainly deserved more with individual errors costing us on the day. Davis couldn’t hide his frustration afterwards because he knew that his side had produced one of their best performances of the season but left empty handed.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It was a frustrating result because we played so well. We played some really exciting football and I think we made the best start to a game since I’ve been in charge.

“Then totally against the run of play and from our own throw, we conceded a really sloppy goal. It was an individual mistake and we hadn’t quite reacted quickly enough after losing possession.

“We created a number of chances, some half ones and some really good ones. We didn’t get that second goal and got punished for another error. We should have cleared the ball away in the first phase and didn’t and then they got a break inside our box.

“To leave empty handed was frustrating and the players were extremely disappointed. Now it is important to look forward, not to get too downhearted and concentrate on Bristol City.

He added: “This club has managed to bounce back quickly over the last few years and we have a number of games in short succession to do that again.”
