Uche Needed A Rest

30 December 2014

Boss explains why teenager started on the bench against Preston.

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has revealed that his on-loan striker Uche Ikpeazu was left out of his starting line-up against Preston North on 28th December because he was feeling tired after playing a succession of games in a short space of time. Ikpeazu was withdrawn at Oldham on Boxing Day and Davis just felt that the Watford teenager needed a bit of a break after not playing a lot of games this season.

The Canadian striker Marcus Haber replaced him for the visit of Simon Grayson’s side but Ikpeazu was again introduced as an impact substitute in the second half.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I left Uche out of the starting line-up because I felt he needed a bit of a rest. He was physically tired after the Oldham game on the Friday and I just felt he could do with a slight break.

“I just thought I needed to freshen it a bit and used Uche in a different way as an impact substitute.”
