Anthony Stewart talks to Crewe Alex Player following his impressive full debut

Anthony Stewart has told Crewe Alex Player of his joy in making his full debut for the club against Preston North End on Sunday but couldn’t hide his disappointment as a late equaliser by Jermaine Beckford prevented us from making it three wins out of three over the Christmas period.

Stewart, who actually marked his debut for the club for the club on Boxing Day following George Ray’s dismissal, performed admirably up against the former England International Kevin Davies during the 1-1 draw.

Anthony told Crewe Alex Player: “It was a very physical game against two strikers who wanted to compete. I thought we stood up to it well and we were close to getting another win. It was disappointing that we couldn’t quite hold on but a return of seven points out of nine is good.

“It was a big day for me because I knew that the majority of the fans had not seen me play. I wanted to show them what I could do and I felt confident. It was in my mind-set to start the game well and take it on from there.

He added: “I am currently on loan from Wycombe and the next step is somewhat out of my hands. It is something that has to be discussed between Wycombe and Crewe.”
