Boss delighted fans go into Christmas on a high

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis oozed satisfaction after his side toppled league leaders Bristol City at the Alexandra Stadium.

Jamie Ness scored a cracker with just over 15 minutes left on the clock to send every Alex fan home gleaming after the visitors had Derrick Williams sent off just after half-time.

The gaffer revealed his pure delight with his side’s battling effort that secured a very Merry Christmas to all around Gresty Road.

“We were hanging on a little bit at times, even though they had ten men.” Said Steve.

“It wasn’t easy, but we could’ve made it easier in the last ten, but we didn’t so the heart was still pounding along with the rest of the crowd but I thought it was a really exciting game that had a bit of everything.

“It was very competitive as you’d expect from a team that’s sailing away with it at the top of the league at the moment.

“The home games are going to be very important to us. If we can emulate that type of performance, effort and work rate that we got from everyone, then I think we’ll have a better second half of the season.

“Jamie [Ness] has taken a lot of criticism but now he’s showing the supporters what he can do. We’ve helped him and we’ve backed him and now he’s come good.

“It’s nice to send the fans home happy and I hope they enjoy their night and Christmas, have a few drinks and we looking forward to Boxing Day now to go again.”
