Renewed Hope For The New Year

Steve Davis delighted with Christmas return ahead of second half

Steve Davis has praised his players and his staff after the club collated a superb seven points from three difficult festive games. Crewe defeated League leaders Bristol City 1-0 at Gresty Road before somehow winning 2-1 at Oldham Athletic with ten men on Boxing Day and then following that up with Sunday’s 1-1 hard fought draw with Preston North End.

The Crewe boss admits that he is pleased to finally see his side’s hard work and performances be reflected in results.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I am delighted with them because we had three really tough games and the Preston game was especially hard as it came as the third of the group when most of them had to play half an hour against Oldham with ten men.

“They deserve great credit for what they have gone about their business and approached the games. They have had to work extremely hard in all of the three games and it has been tough but I am pleased that they are getting their reward for that hard work.

“We are pleased that the performances we have been putting in, has been reflected in the points we have managed to get over Christmas. The performances have sometimes been good but we have got nothing to show for it but that happens in football.

“Because of the points we have managed to get over Christmas, we have real hope and believe for the second half of the season. We want to start the New Year in the same way we have finished the last one.

The boss added: “There is plenty of work still be done but we are heading in the right direction and the fans are with us, as they showed on Sunday.”
