Steve Davis says his players are relishing the challenge ahead

Although Crewe Alexandra are currently bottom of the table heading into the busy festive period, manager Steve Davis says the spirit inside the camp remains high. The Alex have certainly become harder to beat but including FA Cup games against Sheffield United have now gone eight games without a win.

Crewe have drawn four of those matches and with the arrival of three new forwards, the Alex boss is confident that those tight games can now start going in our favour a bit more.

Ahead of the visit of Bristol City this weekend, Steve told crewealex.net: “When things go against you like they did on Saturday it hardens you as a manager. It makes you tougher and you learn to deal with things a lot better.

“We just need that little bit of luck to go in our favour. If Nicky’s free-kick goes in, instead of hitting the post then I think we would have probably gone on to win the game. It is those thin lines but we are not far off turning things around.

“If we can eliminate those individual mistakes and keep some more clean-sheets like we had been doing during our good run, then the performances we have been putting in should give us an upturn in points.

“The group is good. They are working hard and know what we have to do. The first aim is to claw points against those teams ahead of us and we are excited by the loan players we have been able to bring in.

“All the players here know there is a real goal threat there now and we have a strong squad that allows us to change the team.”
