Partnership Will Blossom

2 December 2014

Uche says it is great to be able to team up with the quality of Nicky Ajose

Uche Ikpeazu believes that he can go on to form a successful partnership with fellow loanee Nicky Ajose after both of them started against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis did not hesitate to pair his two new loan signings together and they combined for the opening goal of the game with Ajose laying the ball back for Ikpeazu inside a crowded penalty area.

The powerful youngster from Watford showed his strength and skill to turn and get his shot off with a slight deflection taking it past Doncaster goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Crewe were ten minutes away from a precious three points but switched off at a corner and James Coppinger reacted quickest to score from close range.

Uche was disappointed that we couldn’t quite see the game through, but he is confident he and Ajose can form a budding partnership and score the goals we will need.

Ikpeazu told the club’s official web-site: “I thought me and Nicky worked well together and I think we will only get better. We will only improve by training and playing together.

“I thought we linked up well and kept trying to find each other. We are quite different as players but I think that we will compliment each other because Nicky is sharp and wants to run in behind.

“I had a few runs and played him in and he looks for me early as well. Long may our new partnership continue and I’m sure we will both get goals.

Uche added: “We know that Nicky is a goal threat. It is great to play alongside him and I’m sure we will continue to work hard for the team and try and score the goals that will help us.”
