Jamie Ness says Oldham will be a tough encounter on Boxing Day
Last weekend’s match winner Jamie Ness says it is important for the Alex not to read too much into Oldham Athletics’ 7-0 hammering at MK Dons. Lee Johnson’s Oldham side have made a tremendous start to the new season but have conceded 11 goals in their last two games and although their confidence is bound to have been harmed by those last two defeats, Ness knows that they will be looking to bounce back and quickly on Boxing Day.
Ness hit a stellar goal to defeat league leaders Bristol City at Gresty Road on Saturday and the on-loan Stoke starlet is hoping that Crewe can build some real momentum over Christmas.
Jamie told crewealex.net: “We are just looking forward to the games. The spirit is really good here and we are improving all the time.
“I don’t think there has been a firm turning point but the arrival of Uche (Ikpeazu) and Nicky (Ajose) certainly gave us a lift at the right time. They have done really well for us.
“We have some tough games over Christmas but we have beaten Bristol City, so I think we have shown that if we play well then we can beat anyone on our day.
“I know Oldham have been on the receiving end of two heavy defeats but that can happen. We lost heavily at MK Dons and on their day they can do that to anyone because they are a very good side.
“We know that a trip to Oldham is always tough. We have prepared right and will be ready for it. We go there with confidence and if we can repeat our Bristol City performance then there is no reason why we cannot get another good result.
He added: “If we play well then we have a good enough team and a good enough squad to get the results we will need.”
