Steve Davis on important bottom four clash at Scunthorpe

Steve Davis believes that Mark Robins will have his Scunthorpe United side firmly focussed on this weekend’s League game. The Iron have an FA Cup replay with Worcester City on the horizon with a third round tie against Chesterfield at home the reward if they can get through.

A win for Crewe Alexandra would see us move level on points with Scunthorpe or slip six points adrift of Robins’ side and with an inferior goal difference.

Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Glanford Park, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I’m sure Mark (Robins) would have been working all week on making sure his players are focussed on this game.

“As a professional footballer you tend to not look to forward and just concentrate on the next game. They are doing well in the FA Cup but their priority will be to remain in Sky Bet League One.

“I have seen Mark’s interview and him stressing that this is just another game this weekend and he is right on that. Nothing will be won or lose this weekend but whoever wins would acquire a little advantage.

The boss added: “If we were to win then we would go level on points with them and if they were to win they would go six points clear of us. That is what is at stake and we don’t want to lose ground on clubs who are down there with us.”
