John Bowler On MBE Honour

31 December 2014

Club chairman speaks to Crewe Alex Player on his New Year Honour

Chairman John Bowler has exclusively told Crewe Alex Player that his MBE honour is recognition of a lot of hard work by numerous employees of the Football Club.

The long serving chairman has been made an MBE for his services to football and to the community and he joins the club’s Director of Football Dario Gradi as the second member of Crewe Alexandra to be honoured following his own MBE award back in 1998.

John told Crewe Alex player: “It was a great surprise and honour to be recognised for the award. It is rather humbling to have an individual or a group put a proposal forward and for it to be accepted is a great honour.

“It is recognition for a lot of hard work from a lot of people at the Football Club and as I am receiving the award for services to football and the local community then it is a reward I share with them.

“Whilst the players may get most of the coverage, the glory and the glamour if you like there are a lot of dedicated and capable people in the background, who work hard to make sure that the Football Club runs sufficiently.

He added: “Crewe Alexandra has always been a Football Club run for the benefit of the local supporters and the town and we have always been immensely proud of trying to give something back to the local community.”
