Forwards Have Had Desired Effect

Boss says new signings have provided spark amongst the squad

Steve Davis believes that the recent acquisition of Uche Ikpeazu and Nicky Ajose on loan and the Finn Lauri Dalla Valle on a permanent contract has had the desired effect on the other forward players in his squad. The Alex boss has been pleased with the response of his other strikers and says that the extra competition for places has provided the spark he was striving for.

Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Scunthorpe, Steve told crewealex.net: “It is my job to pick the best 11 players to get a result.

“We will always assess how the opposition line-up and that can influence my selection but most of the time we want to focus on what we need to do.

“I have seen the right reaction from our players in training. The likes of Marcus and Callum have stepped up in training. They have seen the other forwards come in and that has provided a spark. The added competition will improve the performances.

“They are working hard to catch the eye and get into the team and that is what I wanted to create. When it comes to the forward players, it is all about them creating and scoring goals. That is what they are judged on.

“I will look to pick those that are being the most threatening. It really is up to them to who plays.

He added: “We have bought in three players who have scored goals in League One and our players know they have to perform on a consistent basis to get into the team now.”
