Decision Making Needs To Be Better

Steve Davis says his Crewe will learn greatly from shooting themselves in the foot against Iron

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis admits that he was pleased with the improvement in performance against Scunthorpe United on Saturday but he was left frustrated after two errors cost his team at least a point. The Alex produced arguably one of their best overall performances of the season at Glanford Park but according to the boss the 2-1 defeat will serve as a harsh lesson to the dressing room.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I have been pleased with the performances of late but we haven’t got the results we perhaps have deserved. That was the certainly the case on Saturday at Scunthorpe.

“The players gave their all and created enough chances to win the game. We didn’t take them and we have made two individual errors that cost us the game. We shouldn’t have lost and it was a harsh lesson for everyone because when you play well and dominate large parts of the game then you should get your rewards. That is football and you are judged on the wins and the points you get.

“We have to learn from that experience on Saturday and manage the game better. Our decision making for their goals has cost us and we created our own problems. They will learn from that.

He added: “Football can be cruel like that. I thought we played well against Doncaster but we went up a level against Scunthorpe. We got a point against Doncaster and nothing from Scunthorpe.”
