Boss hoping to have one or two back for Boxing Day

Steve Davis is hoping to have a few more of his squad available for the Boxing Day fixture at Oldham Athletic. The Alex boss had to contend with having 10 players missing for the visit of League leaders Bristol City last weekend with illness and injuries coming at a bad time, but the squad he had available certainly rose to the occasion to record a superb 1-0 over Steve Cotterill’s side.

Club captain Matt Tootle will feature for the club’s Elite Development squad at Barnsley this afternoon after shaking off a tight thigh muscle. Jon Guthrie will also play after overcoming illness but goalkeeper Scott Shearer is unwell and has not travelled.

Lauri Valla Dalle is still rated as a doubt for the trip to Boundary Park but he could still have a chance if can train tomorrow. The Finnish striker says he is improving after going over on his ankle.

Crewe will have to make change at the back because Alan Tate’s loan deal has expired. It will be assessed in the New Year with Steve Davis eager to invite the Swansea defender back.
