A Great Occasion For The Youngsters

10 December 2014

Steve Davis says it is a chance for youngsters to take centre stage against Fulham

The Alex youngsters have drawn last season’s losing finalists in the third round of the prestigious competition and it will be a stern test for Alex Morris’ exciting side. First team boss Steve Davis says tonight’s Youth Cup tie against Fulham will be a fantastic experience for the young players coming through the ranks at Gresty Road.

Crewe have overcome Preston North End and York City in the previous rounds, but Davis appreciates that it is going to be a different proposition against one of the country’s leading Youth teams.

Ahead of tonight’s fixture at Gresty Road, Steve said: “It should be a good game and hopefully a spectacle for the supporters who come along.

“We have a good group this year and we hope some of them will go on to play in the first team in the future. This is their chance to take the stage and show us that they can go on to become professional footballers with us.

“They should enjoy it because it should be a great occasion for them. It’s their big game, a knockout cup competition, and although it is a tough draw, we are at home and that has to be an advantage.

“Fulham will be a different proposition to the previous rounds. They reached the final last season and were unlucky not to win it. They were close to winning it.”

Kick off is 7pm at the Alexandra Stadium this evening.
