Steve: "We Didn't Attack Enough Today"

23 August 2014

Steve gives us his reaction following 2-0 defeat at Swindon

"When we contained them and got possession back, we didn't pass the ball well enough to hurt them. We didn't have anyone being creative or clever and I was disappointed that we didn't hurt them. We tried to frustrate them and for large periods we did that, but the key factor was the second goal because we were entering the later stages and could have nicked a point with a bit more quality because we were in the game and they were getting a bit sloppy with their passing."

"I was disappointed with our attacking play and we have made those little errors that have cost us. Saying that it was a great free kick and Swindon are a good side, with talented players. We cannot come to a place like this and not have seven or eight players playing to their potential. It is tough and seeing our errors punished just goes to show how tough it is.

"After what happened on Tuesday and with the goals we conceded, we were a lot more focused on our defending and that meant we have sacrificed a large proportion of our attacking play. We were disciplined in our defending but we didn't create too much and I am disappointed with that. We didn't cause them enough problems and when you have one shot then you are not going to win many games. We did okay defensively and have made two mistakes. Billy has been eager to try and pinch the ball and conceded a free-kick and then Lee has given the ball away for the second goal.
During his post match press conference from the County Ground, manager Steve Davis told the club's official web-site: "We have picked the bones out of the performance and the result and there is no point shouting at them. We have tried to be constructive because it is still early in the season and there are plenty of games to go.
