Steve Praise For Alexander's Job

7 August 2014

Steve Davis looks forward to meeting up with Fleetwood's bright young boss

Steve Davis has praised the job his opposite number Graham Alexander has achieved in a short space of time at Fleetwood. The Alex boss is looking forward to the opening day of the season against last season’s League Two Play-Off winners and meeting up again with the former Preston and Burnley full-back.

Alexander will be looking to make a well resourced Fleetwood a major player in League One this season and Davis says that Alexander’s investment in the transfer market has paid dividends.

Ahead of this season’s opener at the Highbury Stadium, Steve told crewealex.net: “I have got to know Graham just by seeing him at games and at meetings and he is a good guy.

“He is a proper football man and he has done a tremendous job at Fleetwood. He has had the resources to bring players into the club but with that comes its own expectation and pressure.

“He succeeded Micky Mellon and did a fine job in bringing Fleetwood through the play-offs last season. They have gone on under Graham and that is because he has invested wisely.

“I remember playing Fleetwood in the FA Cup when I was at Nantwich. They were a non-league side then and it just goes to show the progress they have made as a club in a relatively short period of time.

The Crewe boss added: “Graham will have his team focussed on what to expect at this level and they will be looking forward to a decent season.”
