Steve Davis says spirit is totally different to last season
Steve Davis says his Crewe Alexandra squad are ready and in good shape for the 2014/15 season opener at Fleetwood. The Alex boss has virtually a fit squad to choose from with only Harry Davis (knee) and Ryan Colclough (hernia) ruled out through injury. Young forward Fraser Murdoch is also in rehabilitation after suffering a serious knee injury last season.
Summer signing Chris Atkinson has been struggling with a slight hamstring strain after aggravating the muscle against Wolverhampton Wanderers in pre-season, but the former Huddersfield Town man has come through a fitness test this week with ‘flying colours’.
Fellow signing Marcus Haber, 25, could also be in squad and used as an impact substitute after getting a week of full training under his belt. The former Stevenage forward has missed virtually all of the pre-season following his release in the summer.
Steve told crewealex.net: “The lads are really upbeat and confidence and can’t wait for it now. The spirit is good and totally different from last summer when we had one or two major things distracting us.
“The club is in much better shape now and they are focussed on having a much improved season. There is real life and enthusiasm about them and they have all worked very hard in the summer. I have been impressed with them.
“The opening day is a big day and everyone wants to do well and start well. This is where it really begins with those points up for grabs.”
