Ray Is Getting There

13 August 2014

Steve Davis says young Welshman is heading in the right direction

Steve Davis says that the club’s Wales Under-21 international George Ray is heading in the right direction to prove that he was right to allow the popular Mark Ellis leave the club in the summer. Davis placed his faith in Academy graduate Ray to come through and become a long term replacement for Ellis, who since signed for League Two Shrewsbury Town.

Ray, 20, has been given his chance to prove himself alongside Adam Dugdale and he has made a promising start to the new season. Ray helped the club keep a clean-sheet at Barnsley last night in the League Cup and Davis feels that once his concentration levels have fully improved with experience he will become an important part of the first team on a regular basis.

With Harry Davis now just weeks away from returning from his knee injury, both Ray and Dugdale now they will have to continue to play well to retain their places.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I thought George has been good this season and he has settled back into it. We put him in last season and took him out and I’m sure he would have learned a lot from the experiences he had.

“Once George cuts out those odd mistakes or slight lapses in concentration then we know we are going to have a real player on our hands. Once he has cracked that he is going to be absolutely fine for us.”
