Promising Signs To Take Forward

Steve Davis says his players have deserved something from their performances

Although he was left extremely disappointed not to have taken something from Saturday’s first home game against Barnsley, boss Steve Davis says there were still positives to take from the performance. Crewe let a 1-0 half-time lead slip as goals from Leroy Lita and Martin Craine gave Danny Wilson’s Tykes all three points.

Crewe have narrowly lost their opening two league games, but Davis is confident that we are not far off. He told the club’s official web-site: “There were some bright moments on Saturday and we will take some real positives from it. There are things we could have done better and we will have a look at the goals we conceded in more depth because we were disappointed by the manner in which we conceded those.

“I don’t think we are that far off. We have been in both games and the performances have been relatively good. We did some good things on Saturday and looked more dangerous at times.

“I thought we tried to walk the ball in a few times and we should have put the ball in the box a few more times, especially when we had both Vadaine (Oliver) and Marcus (Haber) on the pitch at the same time. Our decision making has to improve but we managed to get players forward and into the box.

“There were some promising signs but there is room for improvement. This group of players are working hard and if they keep on doing that then I’m sure they were get their rewards for their performances.”
