Priestfield Is A Good Hunting Ground For Us

28 August 2014

Steve Davis is hoping our good form in Kent can continue to get us off the mark this weekend

Steve Davis is hoping Gillingham’s Priestfield Stadium proves to be a good hunting ground for Crewe Alexandra this weekend. The Railwaymen have won on their previous four visits to Kent and a repeat performance would be the perfect tonic as we go in search of our first League points of the season.

Two goals from Chuks Aneke and a superb back heeled goal from Mathias Pogba gave us a vital 3-1 at the Priestfield Stadium last March and you have to go back to March 2007 to see our last defeat there.

Ahead of our trip to the Priesfield Stadium, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Gillingham have a similar budget and fan base to ourselves. It is a game we are looking forward to and Gillingham has been a very good hunting ground for us in the past. We are all hoping that continues this weekend and we can get those first three points of the season.

“The confidence and spirit is still high, especially after our performance on Tuesday. We were disappointed to lose the Bolton game in the end, after everything we put into it, but there are a lot of positives the players can take from playing like that.

“We always tend to do well there and we won at a few away grounds last season when we were not expected to do so. Tuesday night took a lot out of the players but we have prepared them right so they are fresh and ready to go again.

“Peter Taylor has decided to freshen his squad up a bit this summer. He has lost a few but he has also bought a few in. He has made some good signings and he has promoted some of his younger ones as well, so it should be a good game.”
