Molyneux hopeful of another opportunity after frustating return to the starting XI
Winger Lee Molyneux is hoping he will get another chance to prove that he is worthy of move involvement with the first-team following a disappointing home defeat by Rochdale.
Molyneux, 25, spent time at Rochdale on loan last season and found some real form after returning to his former club Accrington Stanley in the second half of the season.
After spending the majority of last season out on loan, Molyneux returned to Crewe in the summer and to his great credit has worked hard to put himself back in the manager’s thoughts.
That work ethic and early season form saw Lee rewarded with a first start for the club for almost ten months, but the former Southampton and Everton starlet admits he didn’t make the most of his opportunity on Tuesday night.
Lee exclusively told Crewe Alex Player: “Tuesday was a tough night with what happened and the result, but I was delighted to get back into the team and for the manager to show some faith in me and give me a chance.
“Anyone in the side that night, after we’d just been beaten 5-2 at home suffered. I don’t think anyone could come out of that one with their head held high aside from Marcus (Haber), who got his two goals – he’s come in and given us a presence up top.
“On a personal level, I set myself standards, and some things just didn’t come off for me. There were periods where I didn’t have a lot of the ball, but games change from week-to-week so I’m just hoping that the gaffer gives me another chance and I can produce some good performances.
Lee added: “The lads need to pull together and we need to start getting some points on the board sharpish. It’s sometimes nice to play nice football, but ultimately it’s a results based business and we need to start getting those wins and hopefully if I’m in the team then I can help with those objectives.”
