Greg Leigh comes highly recommended after fine form for Manchester City's Under-21s
Greg Leigh’s five-month loan move to Crewe Alexandra has received a real stamp of approval from the former World Cup winner Patrick Vieira. The 38-year-old Frenchman, who is manager of the Elite Development Group at Manchester City, has recommended the flying left-back for a while and Crewe Alexandra fought off competition to sign the promising England Youth International.
Crewe have kept tabs on the Manchester-born defender for a while and moved quickly this week once it became know that he was available for loan.
Leigh was collected en route to Barnsley on Tuesday and certainly performed well on his debut in the club’s 2-0 win over the Tykes.
Steve Davis told crewealex.net: “Our primary loan targets have always been from Premier League clubs and we are pleased to have got the two we have. We spoke to Manchester City and they felt that it was time for Greg to get out and play some competitive football.
“Patrick has said to us that he is ready for his next step and there doesn’t come a better recommendation than that because we all know what a world class player Patrick was. Greg is a promising player with a great pedigree and he is sure to benefit from the experience.
He added: “He is an athletic player, who loves to get forward and he will give us a different dimension to our attack from the left hand side.”
