Barnsley Paper Review

What the papers made of our opening home defeat to the Tykes

The Sentinel
STEVE Davis says his Crewe side have got to cut out defensive mistakes as they went down 2-1 at home to Barnsley.
Leroy Lita and Martin Cranie pounced on sloppy defending from the home side as Barnsley avenged the league cup defeat on Tuesday to the Alex.
A stunning Billy Waters goal had given the Alex the lead in the first half, before Barnsley hit back after the break.
"We gifted them the goals, but how many times have we said that?" Davis said.

The Chronicle
AFTER watching his Crewe Alex side lost 2-1 to Barnsley at Gresty Road on Saturday manager Steve Davis said: "It is disappointing because we lost the game as opposed to Barnsley winning it.
"We just gifted them goals, we've seen that before. I thought we played quite well in the first half and we went in 1-0, but we didn't build on it. We got punished for our mistakes.
"There is still plenty of work to be done. There were some really positive signs but we didn't have enough threat going forward and I'm active trying to rectify that.

Yorkshire Star
Delighted boss Danny Wilson heaped glowing praise on his players after they hit back to win at Crewe to finally get their 2014-15 campaign off and running.
After no goals and two defeats to show from their opening two games of the season, prospects looked bleak for the Reds as they trailed at half-time at Gresty Road thanks to Billy Waters’ memorable strike.
The omens didn’t look good with the hosts having won the previous five meetings between these two, but the second half proved a totally different story as Leroy Lita and skipper Martin Cranie bagged the goals which sent the Reds’ almost 1,000-strong travelling army into dreamland.
