Wolves' Party Poopers?

11 April 2014

Can Crewe spoil a potential promotion party for Kenny Jackett's side?

Despite being a boyhood supporter of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Steve Davis is hoping his team can put their promotion party on hold for at least another week by preventing them picking up another three points at Gresty Road.

If Rotherham United manage to defeat Bradford City this evening in the televised League One game then Wolves’ confirmed promotion will be placed on hold. Anything else and a win for Kenny Jackett’s side tomorrow would see them back in the Skybet Championship.

If that scenario does materialise then Davis is hoping that his Crewe side can spoil their promotion party.

Ahead of the game, the Alex boss said: “If the Rotherham result goes for them and they get a result tomorrow then I’m told they will secure promotion. I was a fan of the club as a child but I don’t want them to go up at the expense of us tomorrow.

“I want to put their party on hold through us playing well and getting a result. I haven’t concerned myself too much about them and what it means for them. They may need the points to go back up but these are three very important points for us as well.

“We have focussed on us and what we need to do. We have worked on how we are going to set-up to contain them and give them some problems when we go forward. We have be concentrating on us and being the best we can on the day. If we can do that then we will give them a real game.

“I don’t need to motivate the players too much for this one. They are playing the best team in the league and they are up for it. The atmosphere will add to that and it is an occasion we are all looking forward to.”
