Uche Sets Goals

4 April 2014

On-loan Ikpeazu wants to fire Crewe to a safety spot

. Uche Ikpeazu remains confident that he can score the goals to make sure Crewe Alexandra are safe at the end of the season. The on-loan Watford striker started his Crewe career with a superb brace away at Bradford City on his professional debut but he has failed to get on the score-sheet in his seven other appearances

That is not to say his contribution has not been first class. He was certainly a powerful nuisance to the Coventry City defence on Saturday, having a superb solo effort cleared from the line and not been awarded a penalty when his shirt was clearly pulled in the first half of our 2-1 defeat.

Although he didn’t get on the scoresheet himself, the 19-year-old was also a real handful away at Gillingham, having a hand in two of our three goals at the Priestfield Stadium.

The former Reading youngster told “We want to get over the Coventry game as quickly as possible and if we can go to Crawley and get the three points then that would give everyone a massive lift.

“We have lost two on the bounce at home and that hurts. All we can do now is look forward and I want to help this team. I don’t want Crewe Alexandra to go down, it wouldn’t be nice for the club or for me personally.

“Everything in football is an experience but this isn’t a particularly nice one to be going through but I came here to score and create goals and I’m here to help.

Uche added: “I am a striker and strikers are judged on goals or assists, so I want to score goals and get us going. We will have to dig in as a team and have that bit of luck go in our favour because it certainly didn’t go for us against Coventry.”
