Steve Davis confident that young forward will sign pro deal and continue to develop at Crewe
Despite speculation linking the club’s prolific Under-18 striker Callum Saunders with a possible move to a bigger club this summer, manager Steve Davis and his staff remain confident that the Wales Youth International will commit his long-term future to Crewe Alexandra.
Saunders is one of seven scholars to be offered professional terms with the Football Club and the Crewe manager fully expects the goal poacher to sign and continue his develop at one of the most renowned Academies in the country.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I have seen some of the reports linking Callum to Premier League clubs and whatever. It is pure speculation and we don't worry ourselves with that. I am sure there are agents at work there somewhere but we know that Callum is a sensible lad and he has a father who knows the game better than most.
“Callum will see a clear path way here and will know that this is the perfect place to introduce him to life as a young professional footballer. He is a mature lad and he knows what he wants and where he is going as a young player. I’m sure he will sign here, like all the other lads, because they know the Crewe way and what we offer here.
“I don’t think we will need to convince him too much because he knows we can give him that progression from youth football, to the Under-21s and into the first team. His next aim is to score a hatful of goals for the Under-21s like he has done for the Under-18s and Youth team.
“Callum is a great goalscorer but he still has to develop physically. It is still early in his development and the development of all the other lads. They all have a long way to go and they know they have to continue to work hard, listen and improve.”
