Steve Davis says his players are determined to see things through this weekend with result against Preston

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says he is looking forward to the challenge of trying to keep the club in League One for next season. Crewe Alexandra host play-off bound Preston North End for the final game of the season with as many as four teams still involved in a relegation scrap. The Alex boss will certainly have one eye on Carlisle United’s result at Crawley Town this evening.

February then we will retain our League One status and getting those three points is all that Davis is focussing on. stIf Crewe Alexandra can win their first home game since 1

Ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Preston, the manager told crewealex.net: “It has been a roller coaster of emotion this season for various reasons both on-and-off the pitch. We have had to cope with a lot of issues.

“It has been challenging and a test because at times it has been very difficult. When we had 21 points from 23 games, If I’m honest I don’t think many outsiders thought we had a chance of getting out of it. There were many who would have thought we looked doomed at that point but the players and the staff have put in a great effort to give us this chance.

“We have created the situation for ourselves and the point at Bristol means that we are in control of our destiny. We have it in our hands and know that if we can win a tough game then we are safe.

“Going through that adversity has brought the group closer together and the players and supporters have been fighting for each other over the last four to five months to give us a chance. If someone had said to me at the mid-way point that we would be going into the final game with our destiny in our own hands I would have taken it.”
