Steve Davis on Wolves' attacking midfielder Kevin McDonald
Steve Davis says his Crewe Alexandra team will have to keep a very keen eye on Wolverhampton Wanderers’ influential midfield player Kevin McDonald tomorrow. The Alex boss is a keen admirer of the attacking midfield player and compares him favourably with our former captain Luke Murphy. After missing out on Murphy in the summer, Kenny Jackett did not hesitate to try and entice McDonald away from Sheffield United.
Ahead of our intriguing meeting at Gresty Road, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I have always like (Kevin) McDonald as a player. I would consider him to the best attacking midfielder player in the division alongside Forshaw at Brentford.
“I think if they would have got him and Murphy then it would have been the perfect midfield at this level. McDonald is a great athlete; he is physically good and has always been technically very good as well.
“I have always been a fan of his and we will have to devise a way to stop him. That won’t be easy and if we do then they have other quality players who can hurt you as well. We will have a way of playing and we have worked hard on that this week.
“We know Wolves will be a tough opponent because of the standard of player they have, but we have worked on some ideas and prepared well.”
