Boss On Miller Threat

17 April 2014

Steve on Shrews loan forward and our old boy Shaun Miller

Although Shaun Miller’s Crewe Alexandra career ended with him left out of our promotion winning squad at Wembley Stadium, the Alsager-based forward was still a great servant for the club, scoring 43 goals in 179 appearances for the club over his six years as a first-team member.

The former Academy graduate is now on loan at Shrewsbury Town and he will be looking to end the season on a personal high after finding his chances limited at Sheffield United. Miller, 26, marked his Shrews debut with a stunning winning goal against Bradford City last month.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis may have chosen to promote the emerging youngsters Nick Powell and Max Clayton ahead of Miller but he knows that the lively forward could be a major threat on Good Friday.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Shaun has gone out on loan to Shrewsbury to get some game time after finding it difficult to nail down a regular place at Sheffield United. He has fought back from a cruciate knee injury and it is good to see him back playing.

“We know all about Shaun. He was here a long time and he would have felt that he needed a change of environment to get his career back on track. We know what he is capable of. On his day he can be a threat because he is a natural goalscorer.

“I am not sure that he has too many points to prove to us because he was with us since he was a kid. I am sure Shaun will just hope to play and to play well for himself and his team.”
