Bakes: Players Responded

7 April 2014

Assistant manager says Alex players were confident of away win

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager Neil Baker credited his players for responding in the right manner to win at Crawley after two disappointing home results against Notts County and Coventry.  Crewe bounced back from successive home defeats to win 2-1 at Crawley and keep our hopes of survival alive.

The club’s assistant manager told the club’s official web-site: “We have played well away of late but have struggled to put it right at home. With those two home defeats, it made the Crawley game a more difficult one but the players came through it.

“We were looking forward to the game because we thought that if we played anything like we can then we would win the game. Most of them played well enough and we managed to win it. We played pockets of good football and defended well enough, but we were a bit disappointed not to have pushed on and got a second goal after we scored.

“We do tend to sit back a bit on a lead and not have that real confidence to go again looking for a second or third goal. So it proved again and they have got the equaliser but we found our legs again and became a threat again.”
