Boss wants his side to make home advantage count this weekend

Steve Davis is hoping his Crewe Alexandra side can build on a much improved performance and result against Peterborough United to really kick on the season. The Railwaymen have made an indifferent start to the new campaign, especially away from home, but the club remain unbeaten at the Alexandra Stadium for six matches.

Although disappointed to concede another injury time equaliser against the Posh last weekend, the Alex boss was encouraged by the overall performance and the evident team spirit in giving the title favourites a real game.

Ahead of this weekend’s tough clash against Walsall, the Alex boss told crewealex.net: “We haven’t worked as hard or played anywhere near the standard we set ourselves against Peterborough.

“The performance and the result is something to build on. It is always a challenge. When I first took over we were threatened with possible relegation to the Conference and the morale was low, but we managed to turn it around by pulling together.

“The start of the season has been most challenging off the pitch but you are faced with things. It won't always go smoothly, we have had a very long honeymoon period and I don't think any job can continue like that. There is a time where the progress slides or halts and that's when you have to dig deeper and work harder to get through it and keep progressing. “
