Steve: "Togetherness Was There"

Alex boss gives us his post-match reaction from Boundary Park

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis gives Crewealex.net his post-match reaction from Boundary Park after the Railwaymen picked up their first away point following a 1-1 draw: "I was really pleased with the lads today. They have given everything and gave 100% for the cause. Our crowd could sense that and they really got behind us to help us. They can see that we are working hard to turn things around. There was that real togetherness.

"We are fighting for the cause and there were some real positives. It is good point here because they have been playing better than us, although their results haven't reflected that. A 1-0 would have been nice but I was pleased with the way we played. We looked solid defensively and perhaps we just needed to be a bit more clever in the final third. We will work on that this week because we got into some good positions but didn't do enough.

"We went back to basics and I was pleased with the way the players all worked hard. There was a real togetherness out there and it was back today. I was pleased because the younger ones have gone in there and taken their chance. Ollie scored and played well until he tired and it was Jon (Guthrie's) only second start, so they can take credit for their performances. They stepped up to the challenge.

"As did Abdul because he was ill and struggling at half-time but he has gone back out there for the cause and that is what we need.

He added: "I just thought the game needed something special from someone to win it or a mistake. We didn't quite do that in the final third but neither did they. If we had got that second goal in the first half then I'm sure we would have been fine and gone on to the win the game."
